CLIMBS’ Weather Protect Insurance held another batch of willingness-to-pay surveys across the provinces of Misamis Occidental in Paglaum Multipurpose Cooperative with over 14 farmer-members on January 23, 2024. The WTP survey was led by WPI project assistant, Mr. Miguel Toledo and CIAT staff, Mr. Edelkin Galas. In the next subsequent days, the team also went to Zamboanga del Sur with over 13 farmer-members from Midsalip Farmers MPC on January 29–30, 2024. With the support of the Insuresilience Solutions Fund (ISF), the sole purpose of the conducted WTP surveys is to help CLIMBS, the Alliance of Bioversity, and CIAT better understand the farmers’ perceptions, understandings, and factors that affect their decision to participate in the insurance scheme.

The WPI team has been conducting a series of Willingness-to-Pay surveys nationwide to further assess and understand the farmer-member’s level of perception when it their capacity of availling insurance products and better evaluate what CLIMBS, Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT should do to further develop the new drought policy which was recently approved by the Insurance Commission (IC). The team aims to gather sufficient data that would help improve and increase the farmer’s interest in safeguarding their livelihood and protecting their crops through the Weather Protect Insurance product.
