CLIMBS’ CEO and President, Noel Raboy joins UN/Austria Symposium 2024: Highlighting the role of climate science and space-based technology in climate change mitigation through Weather Protect Insurance
AUSTRIA– Gearing towards positive social change and utilizing technological innovations to further address the exacerbating climate-related risks, CLIMBS’ CEO and President, Mr. Noel D. Raboy underscores the importance of climate science and technology as one of the plenary speakers during the UN/Austria Symposium 2024, which was held in Graz, Austria, on July 17–18, 2024.
Anchoring on the theme, “Climate action: transforming space-based technology projects into sustainable services that support policy-making,” a diverse set of thought-pioneers, innovators, and climate advocates around the world converged together with the sole purpose on facilitating an exchange of information and learnings on the correlation between space technologies and how they impact monitoring, evaluation, and climate assessment in order to successfully increase climate adaptation measures.
CLIMBS’ Weather Protect Insurance, in collaboration with Alliance of Bioversity International, CIAT, and IBISA Network, has improved access to parametric insurance in the country by combining smart agricultural practices with innovative insurance solutions provided by IBISA Network using a weather model known as ERA 5. The ERA5 Platform is the ECMWF’s fifth generation reanalysis of global climate and weather during the eight decades from 1959.
Mr. Raboy served as a panelist in Plenary 2 on the topic “Capacity building: get new tools used widely and effectively,” wherein he discussed several concepts; starting with CLIMBS Insure, the Ecosystem-Based Adaptation initiatives as part of CLIMBS’ climate and gender-based solutions, the intricate features of the CLIMBS Mutual Aid System, and ways forwards on the CLIMBS’ ongoing initiatives to foster sustainable and climate-resilient communities in the country.
Through climate modeling and prediction, disaster monitoring, and disaster management, the presentation—which was co-presented with Ms. Maria Mateo, co-founder and CEO of Ibisa Network—shed light on the current state of climate change and its detrimental effects on communities that are highly vulnerable to disasters.
