With unpredictable typhoons, droughts, and floods, farmers and everyone part of the agri-value chain need a safety net. That’s why CLIMBS created Weather Protect Insurance. Unlike traditional insurance, WPI doesn’t wait for damage assessments. Instead, it works with technology to provide fast, fair payouts based on real weather data.
Parametric insurance is a type of coverage that pays out a predetermined amount based on specific, measurable events or triggers, such as weather conditions or natural disasters, rather than reimbursing for actual losses incurred. With the help of IBISA and the ERA5 Monitoring Platform, WPI ensures automatic, data-driven payouts—no paperwork needed.
An automated system verification is essential to ensure that the data are not easily manipulated, reliable, and accessible. In early February 2026, significant support was mobilized following specific weather triggers across the region: a 13% Orange Trigger in Talakag on February 5 prompted assistance for the DOLE Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative, followed by a 10% Yellow Trigger across Bukidnon on February 7.
This second event extended vital recovery support to a wide network of partners, including the Bukidnon Community Cooperative, Bukidnon II Electric Cooperative Inc., Mediatrix Multi-Purpose Cooperative, ACDI Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and again to DOLE Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative. By providing these resources, the program ensures that these community pillars can quickly recover and thrive, regardless of the challenges posed by climate-related challenges.
