February 1, 2024CLIMBS Assistant Vice President for Admin & Corp.Planning and WPI Project Head, Mr. Ruel Arsua, along with the Sales team in Southern Mindanao, held a WPI Installation and User Training on January 23–24, 2024. Sta. Catalina Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Cooperative Bank of Cotabato, Makilala Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Pantukan Chess Club, Panabo Multipurpose Cooperative, and Magsige Multipurpose Cooperative were among the cooperatives that participated.
These trainings are intended for member cooperatives to learn how to use the WPI dashboard, which is supported by IBISA and the Insuresilience Solutions Fund (ISF), to check the trigger status caused by wind speed and rainfall triggers close to their location, as well as product specifications, trigger severity, and total payout per province. The WPI Dashboard also serves as a one-stop shop for individuals looking into more details about Weather Protect Insurance and how to avail of the system.
By utilizing satellite-powered technology and digital innovations from IBISA using a weather model called ERA5, ERA5 is provided by the ECMWF and has data available for every hour from 1959 until now. This model divides the earth into 30 x 30 km pieces and computes all the variables for each of those pieces. Hence, ISBISA receives a 5-day lag, enabling the ECMWF to process the data. CLIMBS, IBISA, or any other third-party sites are not allowed to change the data since the entire process is automated. The data received from the ECMWF database is automatically stored on the platform, which facilitates tools for calculating triggers.
