September 29, 2023As part of contributing to the cooperative identity of achieving sustainable development, CLIMBS recently conducted a tree planting activity at Sitio Cala-Cala, Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City on September 23, 2023.
Spearheaded by CLIMBS VP for Sales, Renan P. Diaz, and Climbs Ambassador for Climate Action, Ms. Katheryn Tan Guipetacio, who recently placed as the 1st Runner-up of Miss Cagayan de Oro 2023, also attended the event.
With over 322 employees and officials from Kusgan Volunteers Inc. (KVI) participated in planting various seedlings of different tree species during the event which started at 6:00 AM and ended profusely at 8:00 AM.
In her opening message, Katheryn expressed her gratitude for these types of projects by saying, “We are interconnected with where we live in, so whatever you do or how you care for the environment reflects on how you take care of your life and how you take care of yourself. I am so happy nga naa ni nga initiative, salamat kaayo sa Kusgan Volunteers Inc. (KVI) kay dili lang gyud ta taman sa awareness but naa gyud tay action. (I am so happy that we have this initiative, thank you so much to the Kusgan Volunteers Inc. (KVI) because we’re not only [spreading] awareness but we also put it into action)” As she continues to use her platform to advocate for green living and environmental sustainability.
Just recently, CLIMBS also held a coastal clean-up event in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) last September 16, with the theme, “Clean Seas for Healthy Fisheries” in the 12 barangays of Cagayan de Oro, wherein 88 employees and Kusgan Volunteers Inc. (KVI), also picked up trash and waste from Lapasan-Gusa coastal area and segregated the harmful materials that might be able to damage marine life and other aquatic resources.
With rising weather unpredictability putting a broad region at greater harm, tree growing initiatives and coastal clean-ups are considered as a proactive source of advocating for resilience and sustainability in the community.
As part of CLIMBS’s fundamental goal of contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #13, #14, #15, #17 namely; Climate Action, Life on Land, Life Below Water, and Partnerships for the Goals, it aims to take preventative measures to ensure that our community is equipped and able to withstand various weather conditions in the future through programs that increase biodiversity and ecological awareness.
