CLIMBS kicks off Coop Month 2023
October 2, 2023Careers
October 10, 2023The call for climate action is stronger now more than ever– with the goal for cooperative development in environmental conservation, CLIMBS in collaboration with the Regional Cooperative Development Council (RCDC) has committed to planting hundreds of mangrove trees along the shoreline of Punta, Bonbon, Cagayan de Oro City this October 7, 2023.
In line with the activities stored for Coop Month 2023, CLIMBS together with 52 employees promotes community involvement through environmentally-centered activities and mitigating the effects of deforestation from the damage brought by climate change. These projects highlight how important mangroves are to every ecosystem, as well as their value to coastal fishing communities and enhancing wildlife biodiversity.
The mangroves growing activity is one of CLIMBS initiatives in restoring the wildlife biodiversity in the local community, since CLIMBS recently took part in a coastal clean-up and tree-growing activity last September 2023.
Recognizing the role of mangrove forests being one of the most notable allies in the fight against climate change, these types of activities serve as a viable approach to avoid flash floods, conserve marine species since it directly absorbs and stores more carbon than rainforests, and successfully reduces greenhouse gasses.
CLIMBS, through rehabilitations of the sea forest habitats, continues to take action that greatly aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals of SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life Below Water, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
