CLIMBS Weather Protect Insurance (WPI) team, led by Project Manager Mr. Rueland Mark Marapao, along with the sales team held another batch of willingness-to-pay surveys in Leyte and Southern Leyte on January 16–18, 2024, to gather information for the new drought insurance policy under the Weather Protect Insurance’s new feature. Together with, OIC Regional Sales Manager Ms. Rosemarie Aling and GAM Mr. Rene Laurito also provided assistance in facilitating the survey sessions.

The interview was initiated and surveyed among (3) farmers-members in Abuyog MPC and (6) in San Jose Parish Hinundayan MPC. On January 17, the team also went to Libercon MPC who were able to interview (4) farmer-members, (4) in Metro Ormoc MPC, (3) in Palompon MPC. And lastly on January 18, they were able to interview (1) farmer-member in PHCCI MPC – Tacloban.  A total of 21 farmer-members in the Leyte and Southern Leyte Province has participated in the survey, enabling CLIMBS and CIAT to assess their level of understanding and financial capabilities in terms of availing the new drought policy of the Weather Protect Insurance.  With the support of the Insuresilience Solutions Fund, the new drought insurance policy ensures that, in order to handle the devastating problems brought on by climate change, every farmer and agricultural worker are abel to recover and get a reimbursement based on the trigger. Moreover, it reduces crop and agricultural commodity losses brought on by crop diseases, dry spells, and insufficient precipitation.
